Choosing not to have children is one thing. But, physically not being able to have kids is a complete tragedy. It’s unfair to any man or woman who has to go through it. So, I don't want to see like I'm sensationalizing infertility. But, in the realm of Soap Operas, Days may have found a very interesting way to develop a story line around the condition. The writers can do a lot with the story because they picked the perfect character to play it and it is a story line with multiple layers.
First, Chelsea’s never been one of those characters who talked about growing up and having a big family. She was certainly missing a sympathy chip during the Artimus and Demarquete story line. And, she grew up as an only child. So, we get to see the story line evolve from the beginning. The very first time that Chelsea ever thought about having children is the moment when she found out that she couldn’t.
Then there’s her family. I loved the way Bo immediately knew that Chelsea would be at the hospital and went to comfort her. It reminded me of the scene a few weeks ago between Chelsea and Hope. My heart really breaks for Chelsea. Rachel Melivn, Peter Reckell, and Kristian Alfonso have the potential to bring such depth to this story line. Hi-fives for all three of them!
Next, I know I’m asking too much, but if the writers actually remember history correctly, Chelsea Brady was once Chelsea Benson- the happily adopted daughter of loving parents who did not give birth to her. Chelsea always speaks very highly of the Bensons and by all indication, had nothing less than a wonderful life with her adopted parents. Eventually, she should get to the realization that infertility doesn’t automatically equal no family.
Finally, there's the possibility of having a surrogate carry her child. By the time Chelsea finds the right guy, Ciara will probably have been SORASed enough to carry her half sister's baby. That's a SL that has "soap opera" written all over it. Especially if they are in love with the same man!! (Sorry, I can only be serious for a short amount of time
)
Cheers,
Laurisa
